Step 4 Kids Modern Manuscript Review and Giveaway (9/15)

Step4Kids to Write Modern Manuscript is on the Booklist "Top Videos for Students" list (August 2011), the Steps4Kids to Write Modern Manuscript is the third award winning instructional handwriting DVD brought to you by the Steps4Kids team. With approximately 90 minutes of handwriting support, this instructional handwriting DVD will help your emerging writer learn how to write the slanted printing style (also known as "modern manuscript"/similar to D'Nealian® or McDougal, Littell®) using visual modeling and easy-to-follow verbal instructions. "For schools where handwriting is taught, this excellent instructional shows kids how to write modern manuscript letters and help transition to cursive letters."(Booklist, review by Sue Ellen Beauregard)

The "Introduction" track offers suggestions on how to help emerging writers learn the proper pencil grip and posture, how to help left handed writers, and how to recognize and correct common writing problems (such as extended thumbs or thumb wraps). The remaining two tracks teach the letters. Each letter is preceded by a colorful graphic that introduces the letter sound and two sight words to help develop literacy skills. After various letter selections, drawing breaks using the letter strokes taught help to make practicing fun! Also included are "Look2Write™" breaks where students hear the word and then try to find it on the dvd graphic. Word is then highlighted, read and spelled to provide additional reading support.

Students watch how the letters are shown first, then follow along to copy the writing demonstration. Submenus allow teachers, parents, occupational therapists and students to access each letter directly to practice specific letters.

The Steps4Kids to Write Modern Manuscript dvd is an excellent low cost support for group/classroom use or for individual/1:1 use. DVDs can be used on computers, in conjunction with smart boards, TVs or any device that can play dvds.

Recommended for children in K - 2, General Educational Classrooms, Homeschooling, Learning Centers and Resource Centers, and Special Day classes.

Award(s): Winner: "Media of the Year" Creative Child Magazine (Category: Classroom Educational DVD for Kids), "Best Vacation Product" (Dr. Toy) (Type: Educational Skills Builder), and "Editor's Choice" award (The Toy Man).
Review:

Presley and I watched this DVD today and I have to tell you I was really impressed!  The DVD was easy for her to follow and the instruction was detailed, but easy for her to follow without my help.

Presley prepared herself in front of the TV with her notebook and enjoyed writing alphabets that she already writes everyday.  She has just started the 2nd grade and has been writing for a couple of years, but this Step 4 Kids in Writing Modern Manuscript showed her tricks to improve her handwriting which is why we were initially interested in doing this review.

As she will be learning cursive soon, this program I know will bring her writing from the basic block to the modern manuscript required for legible cursive writing.

I would recommend this DVD to any parent who child or children are new writer's and need improvement to their writing.

Buy:

Step 4 Kids in Writing Modern Manuscript is for sale at Steps4Kids for $24.99.  Writing templates are also available for no charge to print for the kiddos to use.  I would recommend printing out the templates for the kids to use because regular writing paper (even wide ruled) is not really the best type of paper to use.

Win It:

Step 4 Kids has given 1 DVD  to one luck winner.  The giveaway is open to US residents only.  Please fill out the Rafflecopter below.  Comments are only counted if the Rafflecopter asks for a "blog comment."
